This feat is aided by the 8.9MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor as well as the incredible SteadyShot image stabilization which is adept at controlling blur right down to acceptable levels. There is a 27x Optical / 32x Extended Zoom, a feature that allows you to get closer to the action as you shoot. The 29.8mm wide angle Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar Lens are a godsend in as much as they remove some of the obstacles that previously prevented amateur photographers from going down this road. The 2.7″ wide Clear Photo LCD display (230K) completes this magnificent display of features and perks.

Sony HDR-CX220 Product Specification

The fact that you are likely to be carrying a camcorder around means that portability remains an important issue. That is where the Sony HDR-CX220 has hit the bulls eye. It measures 7.5” by 5.5” by 3.9”. That comes out at a very reasonable shipping weight of 1lbs. Those of you who are worried about shooting clear videos during a nervous bout need not get too concerned because this is blessed with a SteadyShot™ image stabilization facility. For all intents and purposes, this means that you can get right up to the subject and yet the stability of the final output will not be affected. You can choose to either use AVCD or MP4 formats. Finally the videos can be uploaded to YouTube or played out on your television screen.

The Active Mode allows you to compensate for inclement conditions such that you can engage in full telephoto shooting at will. There an Extended Zoom which works in conjunction with a 27x optical zoom. The HD quality of the videos is not affected regardless of how close you are to the action. The 29.8mm Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens is widely recognized as the ideal choice for compact camcorders. Therefore its inclusion in the Sony HDR-CX220 is nothing short of inspired. By using precision optics, it is possible to ensure that you get an image that is as close to reality as you can possibly imagine.

Does not tax your technical abilities inordinately particularly when you consider the fact that it offers the Intelligent Auto, a format that allows up to 60 different scene combinations. The facility analyzes the shot and then automatically allocates settings depending on up to 10 distinct scene modes. It can account for noise and wind interference in order to produce great videos. The current combinations include Backlight, Portrait, Low Light, Tripod, Baby, Landscape, Macro and Spotlight. Thus you do not have to get down to the details of how the image is produced but can specify what you want and the camcorder will deliver it.

Verdict
The price of the Sony HDR-CX220 is very reasonable when you compare it against some other camcorders within the industry. It has a range of technical capabilities and attempts to customize the video shooting experience of the user.
