We can now confirm that there will be a Sony PlayStation 4. This is the next generation of gaming consoles and the news of its arrival came on the 20th of February at a specially planned event in New York. Unfortunately this turned out to be nothing more than a sneak preview. Therefore many questions were left unanswered. For example the tech-wizards were wondering whether this product is going to be focused on PC functionality. A case in point is the possibility of having an AMD processor. Moreover we might have liked an upgraded DualShock controller. If the product was going to be released during the holiday season of 2013 then it would have lots of competition to contend with.

Sony PlayStation 4 Product Features

At the moment it is a case of the consumers projecting what they would like in the product rather than making an assessment of what they have actually seen of the product. Those in the know say that these will be the specs eventually. First there is an eight-core X86 AMD Jaguar CPU that produces unprecedented power. This is a gadget that is supposed to be working in a number of challenging environments. Video games are getting more sophisticated with all sorts of functionality. It would be a travesty if the PS4 could not handle any of these new games so we must be thankful that Sony is pulling up their boots in order to catch up with the sister market.

We hear that there will be a 1.84-teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine. This come with the oft quoted 18 compute units. Once again the focus will be on ensuring that the consumer has the best gaming experience possible. This is a noble endeavor when you consider the fact that the primary ambition of these games is to create reality in a format that is easily accessible to every geeky teenager in the world. The 8GB of GDDR5 memory ensures that there will be no problem with storage. More importantly it also means that you do not have to constantly disrupt your gaming experience in order to get rid of obsolete files or ones that are temporarily out of use. They have used the hard drive storage configuration rather than SSD. Inquiring minds might want to know why they chose that option but perhaps it was all part of a comprehensive package.

We certainly hope that the rumors about a Blu-ray drive are true because this is one of the essential aspects of gaming. If we are going to get a full experience then a number of dedicated drives may be necessary; if only for the purpose of allowing multi-tasking. Likewise the three USB 3.0 ports offer opportunities for connectivity. They complement the 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi specification. At the same time the consumer gets Ethernet as well as HDMI connections. This product will have a good Bluetooth 2.1 specification. Others have pointed out the value of the optical audio and analog AV out specifications because they change the way in which we enjoy the gaming experience.

The Sony PlayStation 4 is a product of a new age of gaming. Therefore we feel that it is an appropriate purchase in 2013. This is particularly true if you do not want to be left behind.
