Editorial:
The fairytales are always in season as far as Hollywood is concerned. That is certainly the case with ‘Frozen’, a new 3D animated musical which combines fantasy with comedy in a Walt Disney production. The story is loosely associated with ‘The Snow Queen’, one of the great masterpieces by Hans Christian Andersen. Having received the ‘Hollywood treatment’, it is likely that the connoisseurs will hardly recognize the story which is updated in order to appeal to mostly an American audience. There is a bit of history concerning this production which is the 53rd animated feature within the Walt Disney Animated Classics Series.

Frozen Movie Highlights

As expected in such a project, the acting will be in the form of voice-overs. Kristen Bell is Anna while Idina Menzel is Elsa. The later is the famed Snow Queen. These two actresses will be pushed to the limits of their powers because they have to sing as well as speak in order to make the project work. Jonathan Groff also brings his considerable talents to the project. At the moment it is anticipated that the fans will be able to enjoy the inaugural showings of the flick from the 27th of November 2013. Nothing we have read has suggested that anything will change this schedule, barring a significant unexpected event.

In the story Anna is cursed by her sister Elsa the Snow Queen. She is an estranged and cold-hearted sibling for whom familial loyalty means nothing. If Anna is to reverse the curse then she will have to survive a perilous journey across an unfriendly terrain. The adventure of tackling ice and undulating geography is part of the thrill that this movie promises. She is joined in her quest by a rugged outdoorsman called Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) who is seeking a bit of thrill. This is the rugged knight in shining armor that is happy to play second fiddle to the protagonist while ensuring that she succeeds in her mission. Her male companion also has a one-antlered reindeer. He also comes with a hapless snowman.

Together they attempt to fight the race against time as well as conquering the freezing terrain. An army of sinister warriors stands in her way. Josh Gad is notable in the role of Olaf the snowman. At the moment there is no confirmation on who is going to take on the role of Sven the reindeer. Those who are looking forward to the songs will be delighted to note that the composers are the husband-wife pairing of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson Lopez. We already know that we are in for a show-stopping extravaganza judging by ‘Let it Go’ which was performed at the D23 Destination event in 2012 as part of the preview.

Verdict:
The enduring qualities of fairytales are likely to ensure that ‘Frozen’ is going to be a major box office project. The cast will be required to provide a powerful background support as they attempt to recreate a story that was originally written in another part of the world for a different cultural context. It is going to be fun watching things unfold.
